E/B Office
Yong Ju Lee and Brian Brush are partners in the New York and Portland-based design collaboration E/B Office, founded in 2008 (formerly SoftRigid). We create works which inhabit all scales of the built environment: from products, furniture and interiors, to buildings, public art, and strategic master plans. Innovative and visionary, we aspire to build high-resolution environments with exceptional intelligence, beauty, and integrity.
Environmental acuity and a critical digital ethic are core values of our work. We feel it’s our responsibility as digital architects to bridge the digital/environmental divide with work that delivers low-latency physical results: real projects that are virtually indistinguishable from their digital visions. To this end we utilize precise design and fabrication tools which enable accuracy and reliability in the design process. With keen interest in how the direct relationship between information and architecture has implications for another dimension of intelligent design beyond conservation, we project architecture imbued with the ability to observe, think, and communicate as a dynamic environmental interface. To us, information is an instrumental material in architecture, and we are crafting a way to build with it.

Yong Ju Lee
Yong Ju Lee, originally from South Korea received a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Yonsei University in 2006. In 2006 he moved to the US to pursue his Master of Architecture, which he received at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) in 2009. While at Columbia, he served as a Digital Assistant in the Graduate Program, and following graduation he assisted in design studios and elective seminars for the Advanced Architectural Design Program. He has worked at architecture and design firms in the US and Korea including Asymptote and most recently SOMA Architects. He has taught graduate design studio and tech elective class at Montana State University and served as guest critic at Columbia University and New York School of Interior Design.

Brian Brush
Brian Brush, originally from Portland, Oregon, studied Biology, Horticulture and Architecture at Montana State University as an MSU Presidential Scholar, graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design. In 2006 he was awarded the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship and continued his studies at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) where he received a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in Urban Planning in 2010. While a student at Columbia, Brian served as the editor of ABSTRACT, GSAPP’s annual publication of student and faculty work, he was the Graduate Program’s Geographic Information Systems Teaching Assistant, and he was the student manager of the GSAPP Digital Output Facility. Since 2010 Brian has been a Research Assistant at the Columbia University Spatial Information Design Lab directed by Sarah Williams and Laura Kurgan and is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Architecture at Columbia University, teaching courses in Geographic Information Systems and Graduate Design Studios.
